- It costs $89 to park for more than three hours
- City parking only a luxury tourists can afford
- Sydney one of the world’s worst parking cities
PARKING in Sydney is so expensive that it is cheaper to cop an $86 fine than cough up for a few hours in a carpark.
It now costs up to $89 to park for more than three hours.
A NSW Government parking tax is being blamed for making city parking a luxury that even cashed-up tourists can’t afford. there are now no free carparks in the CBD, with global parking surveys naming Sydney as the fourth most expensive place to park in the world, costing up to $35 an hour or $142 a day.

Parking bosses are calling for an overhaul of the tax that forces hotels, councils and commercial carparks to pay up to $2040 a space every year.
The tax was imposed in a bid to clear congestion in Sydney CBD streets but city workers say that it is cheaper to park on the street and risk a fine.
Hotels want carparks to be made exempt from the levy – arguing that the policy keeps away tourists who drive their own cars.
"This tax is yet another cost of doing business for hotels. with the recent GFC and now the high Australian dollar, we’ve been working hard to stimulate the domestic, self-drive tourist market," Australian Hotels Association NSW CEO Sally Fielke said.
The tax was supposed to discourage daily commuter traffic congestion in the Sydney CBD, the AHA submission said.
"those who park in hotel spaces are either domestic guests who have driven from intra or interstate, or they are international guests who have hired a car," it said. "In these cases, public transport is not a viable option."
Parking bosses claim the tax makes the traffic worse.
"it has been imposed only on off-street parking, not on kerbside parking. This encourages drivers to cruise around the streets looking for a bay, thus adding to congestion," Parking Association president Larry Schneider said.
The levy was doubled in 2009 under Labor and will make $105 million this year.
The government is considering industry submissions but carpark owners fear the tax will rise again.
Mr Schneider said the tax was intended to be used to improve public transport but the funds went into consolidated revenue.

We are pushbiking Sydney into a greener, cleaner, slower future
Posted by Malcolm in Uncategorized on May 1, 2011
THE City of Sydney cycle network is all about the future. new infrastructure has to be built with the future demand in mind.
If the Sydney Harbour Bridge had been designed for the numbers of cars on the road when it was built in the 1930s, designers would have given us just one lane or two.
Car ownership was still too expensive for most people.
Years later, we needed a tunnel for the explosion of cars.
All too often, infrastructure needs to be built before people understand and see its benefits.
We are building a cycling network, and there is still more work to do in building links and joining them up.
But the only way to start building a network is to do just that, section by section.
We’ve built 10km of a 200km network. as it grows, more people will get on their bikes.
The time to judge the project will be when it’s built.
However, the evidence we have shows that cycling in Sydney is already booming. recent bike counts show growth in areas where bike paths have been provided.
During the morning peak period there are now 500 riders per hour at the intersection of King and Kent Streets; 450 per hour on Union St; 440 at the College and Park Street intersection and 180 per hour at Bourke St.
Those figures represent an average 40 per cent increase in the morning (6-9am) and 29 per cent in the afternoon (4-7pm) in a period of just six months.
Indeed, bikes have outsold cars in Australia every year for the past decade – more than 11.5 million bikes versus 9.5 million cars.
And, just this weekend, property developers reported their CBD commercial tenants had been asking for shower facilities for cyclists instead of car spaces.
The big end of town is getting the picture; a lot of Sydneysiders want to ride their bikes to work.
International research and experience tells us that bike paths will reduce congestion for all the city’s road users.
Congestion on our roads is currently costing Sydney $4.8 billion and that is forecast to rise to $8 billion by 2020.
If that wasn’t enough, crude oil prices have hit their highest level since September 2008, and demand is outpacing the growth in production.
This means petrol is likely to cost even more in the long term.
The sheer cost of car ownership is causing a rethink in favour of the humble bike.
Riding a bike isn’t for everyone. in fact, for many people, it is not even possible.
However, it is important to give people the option.
This bike-friendly infrastructure is making it viable.
One thing is for sure, our bike paths are making Sydney better.
If you haven’t been to Bourke St lately, I encourage you to take a look.
What you will find is a street that is a quieter and greener place to visit and to live.

I Won The California Lottery Last Week Need Some Advice?
Posted by Malcolm in Uncategorized on December 22, 2010
I am just overcome with emotion right now. I think it may be best to take the payout over 20 years. 6.2 mil per for 20 years. even if after taxes I only see half that I should still be able to save 1 mill a year and then have 20 mil in the bank at the end of 20 years right?
Three words. you are made.
Yeah, plus if you save a million a year you will have more than 20 because of interest. I want to win the lottery damnit.
take the payout now…buy a few houses…cars,,etc…..god forbid anything happens to you in the years to come, at least you know your family will be taken care of…. IF THIS IS REAL….CONGRATULATIONS
Yes. you should. 1 mil * 20 mil is the equation.
Just don't go crazy with your money, keep your feet on the ground and invest it on something, have help on how to manage it a professional. Oh, and family you never knew you had will suddenly start to appear, lol. Also, the friends you had before your money those are the real friends, the ones that come after may not be.
If you are disciplined and know how to set boundaries with family & friends(and yourself) then take the cash up front.
If you don't have the ability to say 'no' to people and you have no idea how to handle money, then take the yearly payments. either way, things are good for you. Congrats!
Take it all at once or stand to loose a lot if our economy and the dollar crashes. There is no promise that our perfect world is going to stay that way. Don't put more than $100,000 in each bank. FDIC only insures up to that much in each bank.. The way the banks are, you stand to loose a lot. Real Estate, gold (not on paper, but in coins, bullion), silver, are the way to go. Stay away from the stock market and gambling. you have no idea what is about to come on this world. Pay off your home and debts.
Establish a no touch college fund for your heirs. give to charity if you are so inclined.
……and I kid you not……
Build a nuclear bomb shelter and stock it with food and everything you will need to survive two years at least. Buy and store soil and seeds.
For the next few months, don't answer the phone or the door. you will be hounded by sales people trying to sell you things and people asking for handouts.

Full details were not released before the air show, but the duo purchased a car for the 1940 cars and several banners in the park.
Bushkill Park closed after being severely flooded by Tropical Storm Ivan in 2004, and while attempts were made he briefly re-opened once since. The park, which targets families, opened its doors in 1902. It has a classic Funhouse, with rotation of the tunnel and drag wooden tower and a whip.
