But as the game played out, it didn’t need to.
No. 7 Dobson used a swarming defense to shut down visiting no. 10 Pinnacle and jump-start its offense with fast-break opportunities to cruise to a 62-35 Division I girls basketball second round state tournament victory.
“We’re not a great half-court team; we struggle sometimes,” Dobson coach Tyler Dumas said. “We have to turn other teams over to be at our best. Using our speed and our athleticism is what we like.”
Dobson junior point guard Katherine Hamilton made the most of the quick transition chances after steals to lead her team with 17 points.
“She’s got a good motor,” Dumas said. “She’s playing very well for us right now, and that’s huge for us moving forward.”
Dobson jumped out of the gates early on an 8-0 run to start the first period before Pinnacle answered with back-to-back layups from junior guard Sydney Wiese.
Pinnacle didn’t score the rest of the quarter though, leaving Dobson with a 14-4 advantage.
Down by double digits for the majority of the second period, Pinnacle clawed back using a spinning layup and a long 3-pointer from Wiese with under a minute left to leave Dobson ahead by just four at the break.
In the third quarter, Dobson’s defense took over, creating multiple uncontested layups the other way for a 39-25 lead entering the final period.
The home team dominated the fourth quarter with a mix of 3s and layups to close out the win in blowout fashion.

AN Elvis fan from Hyndburn is all shook up after being invited to recite his poems on stage at the Sydney Opera House.
Darryl Ashton only published his volume of poetry nine months ago and has already been invited to Graceland and on an Elvis-themed cruise.
Now he has been asked to perform at a special event down under to mark the 35th anniversary of the King’s death.
the summer event will be screened on TV across the country and is also expected to be syndicated around the world.
the former QE2 restaurant manager said he has been ‘flabbergasted’ at the response to his poems ‘Happy Birthday, Elvis’ and ‘An Interview with the King, Elvis’.
the 52-year-old, of Great Harwood, said: “It’s amazing and I can’t wait to travel to Australia and take part in this amazing event.
“It’s really exciting because it’s been one thing after another and the response has just snowballed. As well as the opera house and being invited to Graceland, I’ve been asked to appear at Elvis festivals in Europe and to read my poetry at hotels. It’s fantastic that people enjoy what I have written so much.”
Darryl started writing poetry five years ago, following medical retirement from a career in hospitality that included the post of Silver Service Restaurant Manger on the QE2.
he originally found fame as a stand-up comedy poet on the local circuit of poetry clubs and published his first book of poetry my World of Poems in April last year.

Amy Kamaleddine teacher Amy Kamaeleddine will marry Sydney firefighter Robert Gower on Pacific Jewel.
When Sydney firefighter Robert Gower marries kindergarten teacher Amy Kamaleddine on P&O Cruises? Pacific Jewel next week it will be exactly a year since he proposed to Amy on the same Pacific Islands cruise. Robert thought last year?s idyllic cruise was the perfect setting to pop the question to Amy and the couple was then delighted to discover it is now possible to get married on board P&O Cruises? ships. So, with family and friends in tow, the couple will marry on December 28 on Pacific Jewel where the path to their fairytale marriage began. and in doing so, Amy and Robert will become the 25th couple to marry on board a P&O Cruises? ship in the innovative ?Ceremonies at Sea? program which was launched in August last year. ?At this time last year we were on Pacific Jewel on the same cruise and that?s where the proposal took place,? Robert said. ?I think it made sense to have the wedding on board because we had such a great time during the proposal and after the proposal. It was such a fantastic holiday.? Amy?s friends have been telling her their big day ?sounds like the easiest wedding that has ever been planned." ?Instead of having a big wedding and spending a lot of money on one day we will have 12 nights with our friends and family,? Amy said. P&O Cruises? ?Ceremonies at Sea? program offers wedding services, commitment ceremonies and vow renewals on all four of its ships. Everything is handled from photographers and flowers through to private post-wedding dinners. Jenny Lourey, Senior Vice President of Carnival Australia, which operates P&O Cruises, said the program enabled couples to embrace the romance of holidays at sea. ?We are very excited that Robert and Amy are getting married on Pacific Jewel, which helped set the scene for their big day with Robert?s marriage proposal on the same cruise last year,? Ms Lourey said. ?Thousands of our passengers have found their true love on our ships and many of them take their honeymoons with us and now an increasing number of couples are enjoying the ultimate in romance with weddings onboard. ?Couples are always looking for a memorable wedding location and running away to sea to get married on a ship has to be one of the best.?
